Dualities in Field Theories and the Role of K-Theory

چکیده
s of the Lectures Lecture 1 The basic idea of dualities in field theories and T-duality It is now known (or in some cases just believed) that many quantum field theories exhibit dualities, equivalences with the same or a different theory in which things appear very different, but the overall physical implications are the same. We will discuss some of these dualities from the point of view of a mathematician, and then give a (simplified) outline of the case of string theory and T-duality (“target space” duality). This duality is closely related to other dualities in string theory, such as mirror symmetry. Lecture 2 K-Theory and its relevance to physics K-theory is the extraordinary cohomology theory that arises out of classifying vector bundles. It thus has a very simple geometric interpretation. We will discuss some of the ways vector bundles arise in physics and how the study of “charge conservation” forces one to consider the role played by K-theory.

Several fuzzy connectives, including those proposed by Lotfi Zadeh, can be seen as linear extensions of the Boolean connectives from the scale ${0,1}$ into the scale $[0,1]$. We discuss these extensions, in particular, we focus on the dualities arising from the Boolean dualities. These dualities allow to transfer the results from some particular class of extended Boolean functions, e.g., from c...
متن کاملDualities in Supersymmetric Field Theories
These lectures briefly introduce dualities in four-dimensional quantum field theory, and summarize results found in supersymmetric field theories. The first lecture describes physical aspects of electric-magnetic (EM), strong-weak coupling (S), and infrared (IR) dualities. The second lecture focuses on results and conjectures concerning S-duality in N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories. The third ...
متن کاملABJM Mirrors and a Duality of Dualities
We clarify how mirror symmetry acts on 3d theories with N = 2, 3 or 4 supersymmetries and non-abelian Chern-Simons terms and then construct many new examples. We identify a new duality, geometric duality, that allows us to generate large families of gauge theories, with and without Chern-Simons term, that all flow to the same conformal field theory in the infrared. In particular, we find an int...

The emergence of re-conceptualism in the field of curriculum studies caused a large rotation of identity in this field. The book titled "understanding of curriculum" by William Pinar may be considered the most outstanding work in the field. In this book, movement which affected pre re-conceptualist, are introduced as the traditional type and it is believed the new curriculum discourses should b...
متن کاملLevel-rank Duality of Wzw Theories and Isomorphisms of N = 2 Coset Models
Mappings between certain infinite series of N = 2 superconformal coset models are constructed. They make use of level-rank dualities for B, C and D type WZW theories, which are described in some detail. The WZW level-rank dualities do not constitute isomorphisms of the theories; for example, for B and D type WZW theories, only simple current orbits rather than individual primary fields are mapp...
